For opening the emergency door of a China Southern Airlines jet on Monday and acting as if nothing is wrong, a Chinese man will spend the Lunar New Year on February 19 in jail.

The Star reports that the incident happened just before the departure of the jet from Nanjing Airport bound for Nanning.

Upon entering the Boeing 737-800 aircraft, the unnamed man went straight to the seat next to the emergency door and then opened it and stared at the open exit.

The South China Morning Post (SCMP) reports that no one prevented the man from opening the door because the cabin crew were busy assisting other passengers.

He was even quoted as saying to SCMP that "This door is not important."

Upon the jet's arrival at Nanning Airport, the police apprehended the passenger. He will spend 10 days in prison for his act, which has been done by other Chinese passengers the past few weeks.

In December, there were three such incidents involving 25 Chinese passengers who belong to a tour group and angered by the delay in take-off because of the snow in the airport, a male traveler on a China Eastern flight who wanted to get off ahead of other passengers and another male passenger of a Xiamen Air plan, a first-time plane flyer, who wanted some fresh air.

The latest incident was shared and heavily commented in social media.

In Twitter, Alice Woodhouse suggested opening a club, probably referring to the group of Chinese passengers who love to open emergency exits even if it is an illegal act.

Kristine Servando was quite sarcastic as she wrote, "[At] least everyone in China knows the doors work."

Paul Buck shared the incident also on the microblogging site and used the hashtag #Chinesebehavingbadly.
