Paul McCartney definitely knows how to give love on Valentine's Day.

The former Beatles band member announced a special concert, which a few hundred tickets were released at a meager price of US$40 in the rock club's door at New York Irving Plaza last February 14, according to Rolling Stone.

Irving Plaza has a 1000 person seating capacity, though it doesn't match up to the other clubs in New York. It is a smaller and more intimate venue, meant for seeing the former Beatles star on an ordinary day.

However, the small size of the stage also had its limitations. There were no pyrotechnics and video screens for additional choreography. This was also a good thing since the audience can see McCartney do a no frills performance, giving way to a more wild and energetic rock show.

McCartney went onstage at almost eleven and the audiences were treated to the first performance of "Eight Days A Week".

For the solid McCartney fans who have been attending his concerts, this opening song is a predictable one. But this performance was a different one since it earned a huge applause from the crowd.

McCartney tried to pause after each song performance, waiting for the applause to subside.

The VIP audience consisted of SNL stars Maya Rudolph, Fred Armisen and Lorne Michaels. Even Senator Cory Booker was seen among the audience.

"We're going to continue with one of the first songs we wrote, a very long time ago, in Bethlehem," McCartney quipped as he notified the audience with the slight change in the song lineup.

The song, titled "One after 909" was co-written with John Lennon after becoming friends in the late 1950's.

Several of the Beatles' hit songs ensued after that performance, fitting the tone of a typical McCartney show.

McCartney left the stage an hour past twelve midnight, leaving the audience in a daze. As the fans went towards the exit and the staff swept the red confetti off the floor, we can say McCartney definitely made Valentine's Day more memorable.
