Lizard Squad Takes Down Lenovo Website

Lizard Squad has returned to attack Lenovo's website a few days after the Superfish incident.

Lizard Squad has returned from a small hiatus, managing to take down Lenovo's website for a few hours and posting webcam images of apparent members of the hacking collective.

The attack was an all too familiar DDoS (denial of service) but this time the hackers changed the content of the page instead of simply taking down the website for a few hours.

This isn't typical Lizard Squad work and might mean the hacking group is branching out into branding their own attacks, showing images of members without care for the authorities finding them.

"Breaking Free" from High School Musical was also playing in the background. It seems like the Lizard Squad are still after chaos over stealing information in an attempt to show the power of its Lizard Stresser tool it sells for money.

Lizard Squad's Twitter account posted "Expect more lizard mischief soon." This pointed to even more attacks coming in the next few months featuring Lizard Squad members and tampering of the website for humor.

The attacks certainly aren't as devastating as some attacks for financial gain, but they do show weaknesses in large sites trying to protect against DDoS attacks.

Lizard Squad had big ambitions of taking down Facebook and YouTube, but has failed to do either due to excellent DDoS protection from the two large internet companies that employ data centers and overload servers to manage high traffic spikes.

Now is not the best time for Lenovo to worry about DDoS hackers since it recently hit the news with adware that spied on its customers and could potentially steal bank information through screenshots of the web browser.

This has made many sympathize with Lizard Squad's actions, obviously bummed out that Lenovo would try to add crapware to its computers.
