(Photo : Reuters) HBO Now has launched on the Apple TV and Cablevision's Optimum network.

Dish Network and Home Box Office have announced a new partnership, bringing HBO onto Sling TV just in time for the Game of Thrones: Season 5 premiere on April 12.

HBO will be available as a $15 per month added extra, the most expensive channel on the network. Sling TV comes with 19 channels (20 if you count Cartoon Network and Adult Swim as two) for $20 per month alongside bundles for $5 per month each.

It's another way to watch Game of Thrones and other HBO favorites without having a cable subscription. The other route is to pay for HBO's standalone service for $15 per month, available exclusively on Apple TV, iPhone and iPad for the first three months.

Game of Thrones will feature 10 episodes in Season 5, following the various characters in the fourth season alongside new characters. Fans of A Song of Ice and Fire -- the book that started Game of Thrones -- are worried TV producers this season will push new stories out before George R.R. Martin finishes his sixth novel, The Winds of Winter.

HBO made a big announcement a few weeks ago that Game of Thrones would air simultaneously in all countries it's currently broadcast. That means for people in the UK, Sky Atlantic will be showing Game of Thrones at around 2:00 a.m. with catch-up options through Sky Go and Now TV.

Something changed for HBO a few months ago. Instead of sitting on its already popular cable service, it chose partnerships and a standalone internet TV service. The partnership with Sling TV is only the first. We expect Sony might look to pick up HBO but it will cost customers exactly the same price.

When Apple launches its own internet TV service, it's almost impossible not to see HBO be available on it. Apple might look to spend some its own capital -- $180 billion currently -- to drop the price of HBO for customers.

One thing is clear. HBO is in the driving seat and everyone wants a piece of Game of Thrones.

The deal is $15 per month from every customer and HBO seems to have no qualms working with established partners or rivals to bring the service to more households.
