Konami Cancels Silent Hills Game, Internal Issues Rumored

Konami has announced it is cancelling Silent Hills.

Konami has announced the Silent Hills game featuring an all-star cast of Guillermo Del Toro, Hideo Kojima and Norman Reedus has been cancelled, following the removal of P.T. from the PlayStation store on Wednesday.

What seemed like one of the most interesting horror style video games has apparently not won over a lot of people at Konami, who expressed that the game has not turned out the way it wanted.

Konami did state it is committed to new Silent Hills titles, but specifically called out the Guillermo Del Toro and Norman Reedus part as being cancelled. That might mean Silent Hills in the same vein will return, but without Reedus and Del Toro's work -- which may be considered too expensive.

It appears to be more than a scuffle between the Japanese developers and the film director and actor, in fact a lot of Konami staff including Hideo Kojima -- the mastermind behind the Metal Gear series -- is apparently preparing to leave after finishing the next Metal Gear game.

Hideo Kojima may be able to revive the partnership between the three sometime in the future, although Silent Hills will always be a Konami property unless it is willing to lease the IP to Kojima's new studio; if he creates one.

It is another cancellation for Del Toro, who previously worked on a video game called Insane with developer THQ, who went bankrupt in 2012. Del Toro claims to be still working on the video game, although no updates have come through since the announce he was working on it.

For Norman Reedus, it would not be his first video game, he voice acted on The Walking Dead: Survival Instinct, a game that was rather unsuccessful and overshadowed by the other Walking Dead game by Telltale.

It is often the story of video games and movie producers or directors. Video game studios have tried for years to get directors and scriptwriters from the movie interested in the media, but most of the time it is too high budget or too high maintenance to keep them on the project.

Konami has denied any issues within the company, although it seems like a lot of the higher ups have had enough of the developer and want to move elsewhere.
