Rumors: Motorola To Release Third-Generation Moto Gen X 2015 In September

Eight months after the release of the second generation Moto X, Motorola president Rick Osterloh revealed that the successor to the company's flagship smartphone, dubbed Moto X 2015, will be released in September.

According to GSM Arena, Osterloh made the announcement after answering fan questions posted on Twitter as part of the #AskRickO project. Osterloh did not provide a specific timeframe for the release of the upcoming Moto X 3rd Gen but based on the annual release cycle of Motorola, there is a big possibility that the unveiling will happen in September.

A leaked specs sheet of the third generation Moto X revealed that the smartphone will have a 5.2-inch display with Quad HD or 2K resolution. Experts deduce that due to the smartphones high-end resolution, it might pack a pixel density of up to 565 pixels-per-inch.

According to Ecumenical News, the Moto X 2015 will have a six-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 808 processor and a massive 4 gigabyte of memory. In comparison, the Moto X 2014 model uses the Snapdragon 801 system-on-chip with only 2 gigabyte of RAM. The Moto X 2015 also boasts a powerful 3280 mAH battery.

The Moto X 2015 will also be available in two variants depending on its storage capacity; a 32 gigabyte model and a 64 gigabyte model. Motorola has yet to announce whether the new smartphone will support microSD for storage expansion.

On the software side, the Moto X 2015 will run on the latest Android 5.1.1 Lollipop operating system.

The Moto X 2015 will also receive a major upgrade on its camera. According to International Business Times, the upcoming smartphone will have a 16 megapixel rear camera equipped with Clear Pixel Technology. It will also have a 5 megapixel front-facing camera which is ideal for taking selfie.

Although Motorola has yet to confirm these rumors, several tech blogging sites are reporting that the company will be unveiling three new Android smartphones before the year ends.
