NASA is willing to offer up to $2.8 million dollars to the person who can design a habitat that can be printed on Mars in 3D. NASA is offering many such interesting challenges involving a lot of money, on a weekly basis now.

Earlier, NASA invited people to submit their ideas to reduce the exposure to radiation for astronauts with a grand price of $29,000 while ideas for the first colony to survive will be given $5,000, states Business Insider. In the latest offer, the "NASA's journey to space program" is using a crowd sourcing fund to invite designs for the best 3D printable habitat that can be used on Mars.

NASA laid down a few rules which are to be followed for the design. The design should sustain human life anywhere, including sleeping areas and the cooking areas, the designed habitat should perform the job of a geologist, prospector, surveyor, biologist and a scientist in a perfect manner.

It is to be remembered that this is a prototype for the actual habitat, which will be sent on Mars and used to carry out a vast number of important studies, states The News Informer. The habitat should also be able to build itself from the waste parts of the space craft and other unknown materials on Mars. This would also solve the problem of the junk in space, which is in itself a critical issue for NASA. In fact the agency is planning numerous missions to get rid of the junk in an efficient manner.

It should also provide a minimum of 92 square meters of living space and the submitter should also suggest one point on the surface of Mars where this habitat can repair itself.

The teams can build this in one year's time and the top 30 submissions will be short listed for the finals and a mega prize will be awarded to the final winner.
