NBA Rumors: Spurs’ Kawhi Leonard, Tim Duncan Named to NBA’s All-Defensive Teams

The San Antonio Spurs have two generations of representatives in this year's NBA All-Defensive Teams, and they are rising star Kawhi Leonard and living legend Tim Duncan. This marks the 12th season that multiple Spurs players were included in the selection, according to the NBA's official Spurs website.

Alongside Warriors' Draymond Green and Clippers' DeAndre Jordan, it was the 23-year old's first time to be selected in the All-NBA Defensive First Team, but his second consecutive selection overall as he was included in last season All-NBA Defensive Second Team. Earlier this spring, Leonard was also awarded the NBA Defensive Player of the Year, besting the other first-timers, who finished second and third in the balloting respectively.

Under Coach Gregg Popovich's tutelage, Leonard has become a highly reliable player on both ends of the court. As reported by Bleacher Report's Tim Daniels, he has particularly grown "as a defender capable of locking down an opponent's top perimeter weapon", which has been vital to San Antonio's continuing accomplishments in the last two seasons.

Meanwhile, the 39-year-old Duncan was named in the All-NBA Defensive Second Team for the seventh time in his 18-year career. He had also been selected in the All-NBA Defensive First Team eight times in the past, the most recent in 2008. Overall, his 15th All-NBA Defensive Team inclusion stretches his lead ahead of other legends Kobe Bryant and Kevin Garnett, who each have 12 NBA All-Defensive Team selections under their belt.

Leonard and Duncan had been the foundation of San Antonio's team defense this season, who have held their opponents to only 97.0 ppg in 82 regular season games. CBS Sports' Ken Berger hinted that these two are planning to recruit Blazers' All-Star power forward LaMarcus Aldridge this offseason to further improve their intimidating frontcourt defense.
