The appeal of New England Patriots' champion quarterback Tom Brady regarding his four-game suspension for his alleged part in the Deflategate scandal is reportedly not going to be heard on Wednesday as scheduled, according to ESPN.

On May 14, Brady filed an appeal to have a third party arbiter regarding the penalties he incurred from the case. According to the NFL's collective bargaining agreement, a hearing is supposed to take place within ten days of filing. However, a postponement can be made as long as the NFL and the NFL Players Association would both agree to it, which is more likely what had happened.

The NFL has assigned league commissioner Roger Goodell to hear the appeal, but the NFL Players Association requested Goodell to disqualify himself as an arbitrator because he may be too biased towards the league, as reported in Bangor Daily News. The NFLPA said that Goodell may be allowed to stand as witness to the case, though.

According to an AP report published in HeraldNet, Goodell did not accept the request from the NFLPA for him to step down and that he is determined to hear the appeal himself.

"I have great admiration and respect for Tom Brady," Goodell said. "But the rules have to be enforced on a uniform basis. They apply to everybody in the league. We put the game ahead of everything."

The case, nicknamed Deflategate, is about the alleged deflating of footballs during the American Football Conference championship game between the Patriots and the Indianapolis Colts last January.

New England won that game, 45-7. They led 17-7 at halftime when league officials inspected the footballs used in the match and found that 11 of 12 game balls were underinflated at two pounds per square inch below the NFL standards.

The three-time Super Bowl MVP and two-time NFL MVP was given a four-game suspension by the league on May 11 after being accused of having a hand on the deflated footballs, while the Patriots were fined $1 million with two future draft picks in 2016 and 2017 revoked.
