NFL News & Rumors: Cowboys’ Running Back Joseph Randle Confident Of The Coming Season

Dallas Cowboys' current number one running back Joseph Randle is having high hopes for the coming NFL season. And it is not only for his team but also for his own personal on-field performance as well.

With the departure of former premier Cowboys running back DeMarco Murray due to free agency, the ex-Murray backup is now setting his sights on the starting job. And he is not mum about it.

Randle reportedly told The Dallas Morning News' Brandon George that Murray gave a good performance for the team last season, and that he has to "sit back and watch a lot." But the most controversial statement the former Oklahoma State standout made was that he thought that there is "a lot of meat left on the bone," curiously referring that Murray did not do well enough to finish the job and give the team what it needs.

However, he is not a shoo-in for the starting spot just yet. He has to compete in the Cowboys' training camp against the likes of Darren McFadden, Ryan Williams, and Lance Dunbar to achieve his goal, according to ESPN's Todd Archer.

Randle and McFadden are the top candidates for that precious starting running back position, and they relieved each other in snapping the ball during last Wednesdays OTA's.

In limited exposure last season, Randle was able to score three touchdowns in 51 carries for 343 yards. It was a staggering 6.7 yards per run on average, which is pretty darn slick by NFL standards, as per Michael Sisemore of SB Nation's Blogging The Boys. He hopes to even improve that statistic this year if given the opportunity to be the main Cowboy running back.

The report also describes Randle as "exuding in confidence" after the first few days of training camp, and that he is expecting to land the starting spot before the new season begins.
