NFL Rumors: Tim Tebow In Trouble As Matt Barkley Tightens Grip On Eagles’ 3rd QB Spot

With another week of organized team activities left and a set minicamp before actual training camp, Philadelphia Eagles third-string quarterback Matt Barkley is reportedly tightening his grip on the said position. Competing against him for the third QB spot is erstwhile Denver Broncos starting signal caller Tim Tebow. And as training camp draws near, the lead of Barkley over Tebow is reportedly getting wider and wider.

According to Matt Lombardo of NJ Advance Media, Barkley is showing more of a few flashes of brilliance throwing the ball and making plays for coach Chip Kelly. While he is of course not in the level of Tom Brady or Peyton Manning, he's holding up better than Tebow a lot of times.

Meanwhile, Tebow is still struggling to figure everything out, fumbling the ball, holding it, and holding it some more. Seven-on-seven drills have never been so excruciating to watch as the former Denver miracle man dropped the ball more times than you could count your fingers, and that is versus a skeleton formation.

As per The Trentonian Sports' Jack McCaffery, Kelly had been insistent during interviews that Tebow's pass selection and throwing motion have both improved by a mile since his last NFL game two years ago. However, it is still far inferior, also by a mile, to Eagles starting quarterback Sam Bradford, which shows why Tebow is only in competition for third place QB.

Bradford, who is not showing any ill effects of his twice-operated ACL injury, is like a maestro on the field. Every flick of his wrist is a symphony that keeps all Philadelphia plays in harmony. As of the moment, the starting QB spot is safe with him. And if ever his knee would give in, Mark Sanchez is the first man off the bench to continue what he'd started on the field.

Actually, Sanchez has something to say about Tebow's presence in the Eagles OTAs.

"We needed another guy to throw while Sam still's recovering," Sanchez told reporters, as per Michael David Smith of NBC Sports' Pro Football Talk. "That's the reason (why we signed Tebow), at least as explained to me."

With those words, Tebow's second chance for an NFL career and to play for the Eagles might really be in trouble. The only thing that's going for him is that the coach likes him and just said publicly that they need a fourth quarterback in Philly. A fourth one? Enough said.
