NFL News & Rumors: Super Bowl Guarantee Of Eagles’ Byron Maxwell Is Ridiculous

Self-confidence is one thing. Silliness is another.

Former Seattle Seahawks and current Philadelphia Eagles cornerback Byron Maxwell has been making mad claims as of late. Just because he had played in the last two Super Bowls, he now thinks that he can influence his new team to get there also. Whether he is brave or crazy, no one really knows for sure.

Yahoo Sports' Sam Cooper reported that the new Eagles defensive back had recently guaranteed that Philadelphia will compete in Super Bowl 50 on February next year.

It should be noted that Maxwell announced this still without any awareness about the Philadelphia Eagles' playbook or even spending a single minute of practice time with his present teammates.

Maxwell signed a 6-year, $63 million deal with the Eagles last March after spending four seasons in Seattle and being a part of the Seahawks notorious "shutdown defense" in the last two Super Bowls.

The Seahawks won the 2013 Super Bowl against the Peyton Manning-led Denver Broncos while they succumbed to the Tom Brady-led New England Patriots in the following year's Super Bowl XLIX.

Even with his qualifications, it is still not sensible to say that one man would make all the difference for a team, especially when it comes to American football.

Rant Sports' Seth Lassen called Maxwell "delusional" and his fearless forecast as "foolish and premature," saying that he should even have no reason to believe that the Eagles are going to go as far as the playoffs. It is one thing to have confidence on yourself and your teammates, but it is also another thing to be patient and realistic about it.

Maxwell even mentioned something about the Eagles making smoothies and playing music during practice, which he claimed is what the Seahawks were also doing when he was still with them. He says that "it's pretty much the same culture" and "it really is the same," comparing Seattle and Philadelphia's football atmospheres.

Lassen quipped that football teams with players making smoothies are "far more likely" to reach the Super Bowl.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports' John Breech suggested that Maxwell may just have overlooked who his current quarterbacks are. He should wake up and realize that it's not Russell Wilson anymore. And, from the looks of it, it's not going to be Sam Bradford either.

Most likely, it will be Mark Sanchez at the helm for Philly this coming season, with Matt Barkley and Tim Tebow as backups, while Bradford continues to battle his recurring ACL injury.

Maybe it was the excitement of playing for a new team that drove Maxwell to declare such a bold a Super Bowl guarantee. Not really ridiculousness, perhaps.
