The San Francisco 49ers have been dealt with another massive roster blow after starting offensive tackle Anthony Davis decided to "momentarily" retire from the NFL at age 25. His reason for leaving the game at such a young age is simple: to make time and give his "Brain and Body a chance to heal," as per ESPN's Paul Gutierrez.

Davis suffered a concussion in November last year, which the 6-foot-5, 323-pound former Rutgers standout had said was incredibly troubling. Yahoo Sports' Frank Schwab reported that Davis recounted the consequences of his head trauma in an interview. He said that he experienced symptoms such as having difficulty talking with someone and seeing "white fogs" every now and then. He added that they were severe and recurring.

Aside from the concussion, the other injuries Davis endured last season were a broken shoulder, a pulled hamstring, and some knee and ankle problems, which made him available for only seven games. Prior to that, Davis had started all of his 64 career games with San Francisco and was one of the main keys for the 49ers power-running offense.

Davis offered everyone some unsolicited advice with regards to his early retirement. Talking to no one in particular, he said that he hopes everybody would have the courage to live their lives the way they daydreamed them to be while they were still young. And a person' life is his dream, and he is the only one in control of that dream.

These are clearly emotional words coming from a still youthful 5-year NFL veteran who may have had suffered too many injuries to seriously consider stepping away from the game temporarily. Davis hinted that he plans to come back after one year, when he had enough rest and holistic healing.

Meanwhile, Bleacher Report's Adam Wells wrote that Davis would have to pay back to the 49ers a little over $6.5 million worth of signing bonus that the right tackle did not earn with his current contract. He signed a 5-year deal in 2013 and together with it was a signing bonus worth $7.5 million.

Davis is just one of the many 49ers' personnel that retired or went away this offseason. Former head coach Jim Harbaugh resigned from his position right after the previous season. Wide receiver Michael Crabtree, guard Mike Iupati, and running back Frank Gore all left to become free agents. Then defensive end Justin Smith and linebackers Patrick Willis and Chris Borland surprisingly retired one after the other.
