The Brooklyn Nets are reportedly desperate to trade their two white elephants, Deron Williams and Joe Johnson, as soon as possible for just about anything, according to Basketball Insiders' Steve Kyler.

Brooklyn management allegedly wanted to free up cap space that had long been held up by the enormous contracts of the two fading stars, and they "don't want much of anything in return" for the transaction.

It is apparent that the Nets' crack to build a super-team in 2013 had flopped miserably and the team is still suffering its consequences up to now. They may have (barely) qualified for the playoffs this year, albeit a below .500 record (38-44), but they had no chance against losing Eastern Conference finalist Atlanta Hawks and were manhandled in the first round.

Brooklyn owes Johnson $24.9 million in the final year of his contract while Williams still has two years left for a whopping $43.4 million, with a huge $22.3 million player option for 2016 that he would most certainly exercise. (Source: Bleacher Report)

They have managed to deal Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett out of the team to somehow ease the financial pressure, but the backcourt tandem of Williams and Johnson might be the most difficult to get rid of.

However, Kyler believes that because some teams still have so much cap space to acquire a high-salaried player this summer, both players would be viable trade options.

Meanwhile, Fox Sports reported that Nets' GM Billy King said the team would definitely not buy out Williams' humongous contract. King clarified that what they prefer is a trade for a lower salary as the team had publicly announced that they currently are cost-cutting.

To give a wider scope of the current burden that the Nets are carrying, here are the top 10 salaries in the NBA this 2014-2015 season: (Source: ESPN)
