EXO member Lay, who is now the only active Chinese member in the Chinese-Korean idol group, was recently criticized for taking Sun Honglei's act of betrayal on Chinese variety program "Go Fighting!" too seriously.  In an interview, Lay has revealed that he shed tears after Honglei tried to return his case of gold bars that he had stolen from him. Also he said that he cannot afford to get hurt or heartbroken.

To complete a mission on "Go Fighting!" team members had to collect the second-highest number of gold bars. They had to complete the task solo, but Lay teamed up with Honglei. The latter soon disappeared with Lay's case of gold bars while he was in the washroom. Lay felt that Honglei has broken his trust and has betrayed him. Later when Honglei tried to give him back his case, Lay refused to take it.

Speaking about what happened, Lay told SE Weekly (via Korea Boo) that he trusted his senior partner at the beginning, but at the end, "when he came to apologize to me, my heart actually already accepted the apology, but I really couldn't accept taking the case [of gold bars] back."

According to Lay, he was afraid to trust again and he felt conflicted. When he started the show, he was hoping to gain everyone's trust. He added, "... the end, when I couldn't even trust someone who came to me with an apology, I actually cried as well." Lay revealed that he also held back his tears during the filming of the episode.

He also addressed netizen's criticism that he was not meant for variety program. Lay said that during his emotional reaction on the show, he was not thinking about the audience and was expressing his real feelings, and it was the real him. Lay said that he may have been a little impudent and little too real, and did not consider other's feelings, adding that he is "slowly learning and growing."

Lay, who is the youngest member on "Go Fighting!, also said that it is not that he cannot afford to play the game on the variety show, but it is that he cannot afford to get hurt or heartbroken.
