The New York Giants are reportedly retracting their $60-million, multiple-year offer to defensive end Jason Pierre-Paul after the 26-year-old was involved in a fireworks accident during this year's 4th of July weekend that resulted in his finger being amputated, as per Yahoo Sports.

The Oregonian's Geoffrey C. Arnold reported the withdrawal of the multi-million dollar offer as the Giants were said to be unhappy with the timing of the incident and Pierre-Paul's seemingly lack of common sense to involve himself to such risky activities with the new season fast approaching.

While initial statements said that the injury was non-fatal, the former South Florida standout had lost his right index finger in the process. Currently, his doctors are still checking the damaged limb for any nerve damage before he can be cleared to leave the hospital.

The injury is also reportedly not going to disrupt the five-year veteran's career but might make him miss several games in the 2015 season to completely heal his hand.

Allegedly, the contract pull out did not affect Pierre-Paul in general because the defender was not going to accept the long-term deal anyway as he is leaning to play for the one-year $14.8 million franchise tender this coming season instead.

However, there were reports that the Giants are planning to revoke even the franchise tag which would make the one-time Super Bowl champion a free agent.

Meanwhile, CBS Sports indicated that Pierre-Paul "could be facing criminal charges" due to the fireworks mishap.

According to the report, Coral Springs' police are currently investigating what happened and may have concluded that Pierre-Paul was not in their jurisdiction when the firecrackers exploded so they could not indict him. But this does not mean that he will not be charged at all as authorities are keen on finding out his exact location during the accident.

There were photos in social media showing that Pierre-Paul rented a van and filled it with pyrotechnics on Saturday, which drew worried reactions from those around him.

Authorities have said that any firework "that becomes airborne or explodes is illegal to use" in the state of Florida. If Pierre-Paul ends up being arraigned, then he could possibly receive a separate penalty from the NFL as well.
