Ty Lawson's stint with the Denver Nuggets seems to be hanging on a string as the team got hold of two potential franchise point guards this summer.

Denver is set to re-sign veteran playmaker Jameer Nelson to a three-year deal worth 13.5 million after the team drafted seventh overall the promising 6-foot-5 spitfire Emmanuel Mudiay last month. These two transactions clearly indicated that the Nuggets are ready to move on to their future without the NCAA champion.

NBC Sports' Pro Basketball Talk recently reported that the Denver management is now deliberating on actually waiving Lawson after the former North Carolina standout was involved in a DUI case on Tuesday.

For months, Lawson had been involved in trade rumors wherein most of the time he is linked to the Sacramento Kings. He even claimed that he was going to Sacramento during draft day, as per the Washington Post.

It was reported that head coach George Karl was keen on acquiring his former starting point guard and was said to be planning to ditch franchise center DeMarcus Cousins to pattern Sacramento's roster to his former Nuggets.

However, with the signing of Rajon Rondo and the presence of Darren Collison who can both qualify as a starter, there was no longer room for Lawson to join the squad. The Kings had also become mum about the whole idea after Karl and Cousins reportedly patched up their alleged misunderstanding.

This left Lawson's career at the edge of a cliff with no team currently interested in getting his services.

Fansided indicated that Lawson must be dealt away as soon as possible if they want their prized pick Mudiay to properly grow as a floor leader.

The report also said that former Nuggets' point guard Chauncey Billups is agreeable on the whole proposal as the 2004 NBA Finals MVP said that Lawson has "not demonstrated the kind of leadership" that a champion team needs.

Billups was suggesting that the Nuggets should get Lawson as far away as possible from Mudiay because he thinks that the former is not going to be a good role model for the latter.

"As a young player in the league, you come in 19-20 years old, you oftentimes try to emulate some of the actions on the floor and off the floor of the best player because that's one day what you want to be," Billups said.
