Music app Shazam announced on Tuesday that it is rolling out a new update. The company claims that the new update will enhance its search feature to make it faster. The update will also overhaul the text search so that users will be able to search artists and songs more easily.

"We're always trying to improve the Shazam experience, both on the front-end and the back-end. But this update represents the biggest to-date changes to our core algorithm," Shazam CEO Rich Riley said in a statement.

The new Shazam, at its heart, sports an upgraded song recognition software. A brand new Search feature is also coming to the app.

The Search feature has always been embedded in Shazam. However, the new update will bring the text search feature right unto the front page of the app. Users can now search songs, articles, lyrics, album names and any information related to a song and Shazam will find links where users can listen or download music videos and access additional information about a specific artist, according to Tech Crunch.

The launch of the new update coincides with the debut of a new Shazam feature called Verified Artists. Shazam now has more than 600 Verified Artists on its platform. All of Shazam's Verified Artists have a collective followers of more than 2 billion total.

Shazam's service allow users to discover new music by clicking a single button. The app will listen to an audio clip and then matches it with a unique song ID in its own database. The app then instantly gives users information about that song including the artist(s) profile, other songs, the album which the song was take from and other links that redirects users to other services.

Shazam was launched in 2002 and since then the company has raised more than $130 million. The company claims that it has more than 120 million active monthly users, according to UberGizmo.
