(Photo : Getty Images) The prize pool for the Halo world championship has been increased to $2.5 after a round of crowdfunding.

3D Systems and Sandboxr announced on Tuesday that they will team up with 343 Industries to launch the first 3D printing platform for "Halo 5: Guardians." This new venture will allow gamers and fans to create 3D-printed versions of their beloved "Halo" characters.

The project will utilize the full cord 3D printing technology by 3D Systems. The company uses the ProJet x60 series. On the other hand, Sandboxr will take care of the customization platform using its own propriety 3D printing software.

Fans can customize their own Spartans at Halo Waypoint or through an in-game feature. The 3D printed figurines will delivered right into the customer's doorstep.

According to Engadget, fans have the option to choose from 175 armor and helmet options. There are also 30 color variants to choose from and five different Spartan poses. There are also five weapon choices.

Prices for the 3D printed Spartans range from $30 for the smallest model, $60 for the medium sized and $90 for the largest. The smallest model measures around 4 to 4.5 inches. The medium sized models measure 5 to 5.5 inches, while the largest can vary from 6 to 7 inches.

According to the official announcement posted on the official Xbox website, each 3D printed Spartan figure will include a "Halo 5: Guardians" REQ Supply Pack for free. The promo will be available until Dec. 6.

Halo Franchise Development Director Frank O'Connor said, "If you're anything like me, you spend a long time building, creating and customizing your Spartan and getting it just right. And if you're anything like me there's always a slight twinge of disappointment when you show up second or third on your team, so now you can always place yourself in pole position, right on your desk."

The marketing of 3D printed video game characters is not an entirely new idea. Popular video games like "World of Warcraft" have, in the past, promoted real-life versions of some of its characters.
