The Cavaliers, who trailed by as many as 30 points during the game, went on to the battlefield without the four-time NBA Most Valuable Player James.

"Doesn't matter (if) they want to rest guys," Wizards head coach Randy Wittman said. "This game still counts."

With the victory, the Wizards now hold a record of 28 wins and 30 losses. They are just two victories behind the seventh and eighth placed Charlotte Hornets and Chicago Bulls with both teams having team standings of 30-28.

The Detroit Pistons are not far away behind as they have won two games in a row to get a 31-29 record, making the Eastern Conference race to final eight more complicated.

Up by nine point at halftime, Washington broke things open with a 9-0 run to start the second half, taking a 72-54 lead with a trey courtesy of Otto Porter, who finished the night with 21 points while shooting 6 for 9 from the field and 4 for 6 from beyond the arc area.

The Wizards limited the Cavs to just 16 points in the third period, while they stretched the gap to a 26-point lead 96-70 going into the final quarter of the game.

In the last quarter of the match, the Wizards continued to pound the Cavs as they took the biggest lead of the game of 30 points with 5:29 left to play.

With the loss, Cleveland suffered their second consecutive defeat since beating the Charlotte Hornets on February 24.

Kyrie Irving led the Cavs with 28 points and Kevin Love added 12 points.
