CBA Recap: Liaoning Flying Leopards Beat Sichuan Blue Whales to Take Early Finals Series Lead 1-0

(Photo : gettyimages.com) Two-time league’s foreign MVP Lester Hudson carried the Flying Tigers with a game-high 29 points and 11 assists for another remarkable double-double game performance.

Liaoning Flying Leopards crushed the mighty Sichuan Blue Whales with a 103-89 victory to take the opening game of their best-of-seven finals series of the Chinese Basketball Association (CBA) league on Friday.

Two-time league's foreign MVP Lester Hudson carried the Flying Tigers with a game-high 29 points and 11 assists for another remarkable double-double game performance from the veteran American guard.

Liaoning's forward Li Xiaoxu also had a double-double game production of 12 points and 12 rebounds, while the Chinese star Guo Ailun contributed 16 points and 6 assists. Big man Han Dejun chipped in with 11 points and 8 boards.

Former Boston Celtic player Shavlik Randolph finished the game with 11 points for the Flying Leopards.

The game was pretty close at the opening period of the game - Liaoning trailed by three points  22-19 with Chinese forward Meng Da scoring a quarter-high 8 points for the Blue Whales.  The Flying Leopards made an 11-3 run in the early minutes of the second quarter before ending the first half with a 20-16 charge to make it 50-41.

In the third quarter, Sichuan was able to limit the point production of the Flying Leopards to just 25 points while they scored 30 points to cut the deficit to just 4 points 75-71 going in to the final period of the match.

The Flying Leopards opened the final twelve minutes of the game with three three-pointers courtesy of Hudson and Ailun. Liaoning was able to dominate and contain Sichuan during the last period with a 28-18 run to seal the first win of the series.

Sichuan's foreign players had scored a combined 56 points way far from their average of 75.8 points production per game.

American reinforcement 2010 NBA D-League MVP Mike Harris led Sichuan with a double-double 25 points and 11 boards, along with 5 assists,  while Hamed Haddadi and Justin Dentmon chipped in with 20 and 11 points, respectively.
