Sony Pictures 'Ultra' 4K to be Available Starting April 4

Newest Innovations In Consumer Technology On Display At 2014 International CES

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment announced on Tuesday that its 4K Ultra HD online movie streaming service will be available starting April 4, 2016.

Once it is launched, the newly introduced service will work on Android and Sony 4K Ultra HD TVs. Through this, Sony can provide quality entertainment experience for 4K television shows and movies.

"ULTRA takes advantage of the latest industry innovations 4K resolution, high dynamic range, a wider color spectrum, digital movie extras, and UltraViolet interoperability so viewers get the most out of their televisions and their movie collections," said the Vice President of Sony Pictures Home Entertainment, Consumer Services & Advanced Platforms', Jake Winett.

Sony Pictures streaming service offers a wide selection of purchasable movies along with a playback feature in Ultra 4K HD resolution. High Dynamic Range and Digital Extras will be included through Sony Pictures Store without any additional charge.

The company will also offer recent movies like The Night Before, Cuncussion, The Walk along with classics such as Ghostbusters and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon for $30 with HDR.

Sony Pictures Ultra 4K compatibility was made for UltraViolet, which allows users to sync their Ultra accounts with their UltraViolet libraries to stream online. Sony contents that are purchased from supported retailers are allowed to be streamed.

Meanwhile, those who owns HD versions of selected movies may upgrade it to 4K via ULTRA at a promotional discount price.

Customers who would buy eligible ULTRA equipped Sony 4K Ultra HD televisions will have four complimentary movies, once they subscribe for the new service.
