Colombian striker Radamel Falcao recently admitted that his mother team, Ligue 1 giants AS Monaco FC, wants him back next season even as there is strong interest coming from Argentina Primera División club River Plate.

The 30-year-old Falcao, once recognized as one of the deadliest goalscorers in Europe, is currently struggling on loan with English Premier League side Chelsea FC, appearing in only ten games for the dethroned defending champions this season and scoring just one goal in the process.

He also had a forgettable loan stint with another EPL squad, Manchester United, the season before as his reputation as a game-changer is slowly being wiped away. He scored only four times in 29 appearances in all competitions for the Red Devils during the 2014-2015 season.

This time, though, Monaco reportedly wants him back despite a rumored incoming offer from his former team River Plate.

"At the moment they (Monaco) want me back at the club, for me to play there, they want me for next season," Falcao said when asked about his career's future after a second straight lackluster season on loan, as per ESPN.

"I see the chance of returning to River as being difficult, as I still have two years of my contract left. At the moment, Monaco's plan is for me to spend next season with them," he said, referring to his desire to play for the Argentine club.

Falcao also admitted that he almost signed with River Plate during the recent winter transfer window, but negotiations just fell through at the last minute.

"In that moment, all involved, Monaco, Chelsea and myself, we had in mind to continue in Europe," said Falcao. "Then in February, Chelsea told me that I was not going to be counted on as I will not be staying there for the coming seasons. At that stage, when they tried again, it was already too late to return to River."

Caught Offside noted that "serious knee injuries have taken their toll" on Falcao in the past couple of seasons, which are the main reasons for his huge drop in form. It is expected that he will return to his top form when he comes back to Monaco as he is only 30 years old and still has a lot of football left in him.
