British Prime Minister David Cameron said in a speech addressed to the House of Commons on Wednesday that the U.K. “will never give in to terrorism” in the wake of an ISIS threat to behead an unnamed British aid worker.

Following Tuesday’s release of the video featuring the beheading of American journalist Steven Sotloff, Cameron chaired an emergency Cobra meeting in Whitehall.

In the address made to the Commons shortly afterward, Cameron invited the members of the House and the entire country to condemn the brutal murder of Sotloff, reiterating that the country’s “opposition to ISIL will continue at home and abroad.”

Cameron added that ISIS makes no distinction between countries, cultures and religions. “There is no way to appease it,” he said. "The only way to defeat it is to stand firm and to send a very straightforward message - a country like ours will not be cowed by these barbaric killers.”

Cameron also said that the United Kingdom will not be fazed by threats, but instead will be more forthright in their defense of its values and liberties. “…and I'm sure a united message to that effect will go forward from this House today," he added.

Cameron echoes the sentiment U.S. President Barack Obama earlier expressed in his speech in Estonia Wednesday. Obama said that the Americans are repulsed by the Islamic militants’ barbarism, but are not intimidated. “Their horrific acts only unite us as a country and stiffen our resolve to take the fight against these terrorists,” Obama added.

According to BBC, the House of Commons and the Whitehouse have been preparing for the prospects of further killings by the Islamic terrorist group. Although the pressure on Cameron as well as on Obama to come up with a strategy has been growing.

Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond, in his speech after the hastily convened Cobra emergency committee assured that they will look into every possible option to protect the unnamed British hostage.

Nevertheless, PM Cameron, will continue with its policy of not to making ransom payments to terrorists amidst diplomatic efforts to encourage G8 countries to hold the same policy of non-negotiation.
