Chinese Broadcasters Interested in Lee Min-Ho and Jun Ji-Hyun’s Upcoming ‘Legend of the Blue Sea;’ Drama Based on ‘The Little Mermaid’

Lee Min-Ho and Jun Ji-Hyun have confirmed that they will be starring in the upcoming drama Legend of the Blue Sea by Park Ji Eun. With the two big actors on board for the project, several Chinese broadcasters have not wasted time in acquiring the licensing rights to the highly anticipated drama.

According to Soompi, since Lee Min-Ho and Jun Ji-Hyun are two of Asia's biggest stars, the upcoming Legend of the Blue Sea is already getting the attention of famous Chinese broadcasters, with one offering ¥3,291,650 ($500,000). In fact, the production company even hinted that the rights may be sold for as high as ¥3,949,980 ($600,000).

If this is true, then Legend of the Blue Sea will overtake the popular Descendants of the Sun, which starred Song Joong-Ki and Song-Hye Kyo. Broadcasting rights for Descendants of the Sun were sold for a record ¥1,777,491 ($270,000).

Legend of the Blue Sea will be based on Hans Christian Andersen's The Little Mermaid. It will premiere in November and will air on SBS on Wednesdays and Thursdays. The drama is written by Park Ji Eun, the same writer behind the hit, My Love From My Star, which also starred the gorgeous Jun Ji-Hyun.

Legend of the Blue Sea will be directed by Jin Hyuk, who has previously worked with Lee Min-Ho on his action series, City Hunter.
