iPhone 6 vs. Google Android One: Android One to Win Over Apple Flagship?

iPhone 6

Google gave some hints about the launch of its first Android One budget handset on Sept. 15, only one week following Apple's unveiling of the iPhone 6. It could be that Google will try to take the spotlight from Apple in September as it launches its product set to compete against the iPhone 6.

According to reports, Google will offer a solid experience with the Android One for a fraction on a price. The device is said to cost $100 and analysts believe it could contend against the next-gen Apple smartphone albeit in a different way.

Google aims to offer a wider selection of Android handsets to developing countries and Android One is part of it. It seems that people will see this device on Sept. 15 if a leaked invitation is real. The Android One software will be the same Android on Nexus devices except without the bloatware that usually plagued Android handsets. According to Business Insider, to create affordable phones, Google coordinates with smartphone developers from emerging markets and offers free updated Android software to them. It is an entry-level product and it may be able to offer big opportunities for the low- and mid-range market, if tapped properly. Meanwhile, Apple will maintain its high-end iPhone 6 market.

Xiaomi has outperformed Samsung in China in the last quarter and Android One could be Google's attempt to reclaim market share. Consumers may see the competition as a $100 versus a $700 price tag with basically the same customer experience. However, while Apple is the minority, the company still managed to be lucrative.
