The Honda City is one of the most popular sedans in Asia. Rumors about a new hatchback model based on the Honda City have been circulating in the auto community for quite a while. Recently, a leaked photo of the Honda Geinia made headlines on some auto blogging websites, leading many to believe that this is the Honda City-based hatchback model that will be exclusively released in China.

There are reports that the Honda Geinia will be released exclusively in China. The car will sport a 1.5-liter petrol engine, which is similar to the base model of the Honda City. On top of that, the Honda Geinia will have a handful of aesthetic changes in order to improve its already impressive façade.

The Honda Geinia is based on the Honda Concept B model car which was revealed at the 2014 Beijing Auto Show. While not specifically considered as a direct descendant of the Honda City, many car experts said that the Geinia does sport some design cues that were first introduced on the Honda City.

As for the changes made by Honda, the Geinia has a different front grille, which shows Honda's solid wing design with three black slats just below the logo. There is also a chrome design that runs right below the front headlights and steeps down to the grille. The bumper also has a space to hold fog lamps.

The most noticeable design alteration of all is the hatchback. At the back, the car has boomerang-shaped tail lamps, which are connected to a strip of reflector. The rear bumper also has a space to hold fog lamps.

Under the hood, rumors claim that the Honda Geinia will use the 1.5-liter i-VTEC engine, the same engine that powers the Honda City. The engine is capable of putting out up to 127 horsepower and 155Nm worth of torque. The car is believed to have a 5-speed manual transmission, although there are speculations that an automatic variant may also hit the market.

As for its release date, the Honda Geinia is expected sometime in the fourth quarter of this year or early in 2017.
