China won two medals in the 20-kilometer walk event at Rio Olympics on Friday, with Wang Zhen securing gold and his teammate Cai Zelin winning the silver medal, BBC reported.

This is Wang Zhen's second gold medal in the Olympics. He won a bronze medal in the same event at the London Olympics. China's Chen Ding, who was a gold medal winner at the London Olympics, finished 39th this time.

The climax of the race was enthralling as Zhen, Zelin, Bird-Smith and Brazil's Caio Bonfim were in closing distance of each other at the finish line. However, Zhen took the lead at a decisive moment to win the race. The time separation between Brazil's Caio Bonfim, who finished fourth, and Zhen was merely 0.28.

There was no athlete from the United States in the long distance walking event. The United States, one of the sporting superpowers, has never secured a medal in this event. It is not one of the most popular sporting events in the Olympics, mainly due to the slow pace of the race. However, China has come to dominate the sport, with Zhen, Zelin and Ding being three of the top long-distance walkers in the world.
