"Descendants of the Sun" star Song Joong Ki has been banned from all forms of Chinese media.

The 30-year-old Korean actor recently filmed a commercial for Vivo, a smartphone manufacturer in China, but the advertisement was taken down due to the ongoing dispute between China and South Korea over the Terminal High Altitude Area (THAAD), according to Korea Portal.

The Chinese smartphone giant roped in the actor as the brand ambassador for its X7 smartphone model in an attempt to take advantage of the the hype surrounding the hit Korean television series, "Descendants of the Sun."

Joong Ki earned about 22.8 million yuan from his contract with Vivo and the actor will get to keep the money in spite of the advertisement being pulled from broadcast, according to YIBADA.

The actor's other projects with Chinese firms also took a hit because of the mounting tensions between both countries over the THAAD dispute.

Moreover, the talent agency that manages Joong Ki issued a statement saying that the actor had received several lucrative offers and a variety of roles in Chinese films and television shows, but because of the current ban on Korean talent in China, the projects were affected.

The THAAD dispute will also have an adverse impact on the box-office collection of Joong Ki's upcoming film "Battleship Island," due to the restrictions on Korean content in mainland China.

In addition to Joong Ki, several other Korean celebrities and K-pop groups have been prohibited from featuring on Chinese TV shows and are also banned from having concerts or meet-or-greet events in the country
