Just days after Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) light heavyweight champion Jon "Bones" Jones defended his title for the eighth straight time against Daniel Cormier, he checked into a drug rehab facility for management of cocaine addiction.

Jones announced last Tuesday that he has just entered into a drug treatment facility. The shocking announcement came just days after he dismantled Cormier in the five-round main event for UFC 182. The win put Jones in the conversation for greatest fighter of all time.

However, the notion will have to be put to rest for the moment as a random drug test given to him on December 4 by the Nevada Athletic Commission (NAC) showed that Jones tested positive for benzoylecgonine, which is the main metabolite in cocaine.

The NAC has always followed the standards of the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) code. That same code though does not indicate that benzoylecgonine is banned out of competition.

The result for fact was that the commission was unable to penalize Jones or prevent him from fighting despite knowing of the positive test.

Later in December, they conducted a follow-up test that Jones passed.

Jones released a statement to Yahoo Sports through his attorney acknowledging his problem. He said that with the support of his family, he has entered into a drug treatment facility. He also apologizes to those close to him like his fiancee', children, and family.

"I also want to apologize to the UFC, my coaches, my sponsors and equally important to my fans. I am taking this treatment program very seriously," the statement read. "Therefore, at this time my family and I would appreciate privacy."

The UFC in turn released a statement on the matter. They said that the UFC supports Jones' decision to enter a drug treatment facility and even applaud his actions.

Fellow professional mixed martial artists though are not as happy for Jones as the UFC is.

Tweets on social media indicate that they are upset with the UFC's way of handling Jones' cocaine problem. Part of their qualms is the fact that UFC "crucifies" and punishes fighters who smoke weed. But not fighters who do cocaine.
