Google Launches Gmail Unified Inbox on Android

(Photo : Google) Google has launched a new update to Gmail for Android.

Google has updated Gmail for Android, adding unified email between Gmail, Outlook, Yahoo and any IMAP/POP accounts allowing all emails to be accessed on one app.

This removes the need for other email services, something Apple learned early on with its own email application. Google has been hesitant to add the feature as it may allow non-Gmail users to utilize the platform without owning an account.

The new feature will be available under the 'All Inboxes' folder. Gmail will not format the emails into different folders depending on the email address, meaning it could get cluttered.

It's one of the first big updates to Gmail for Android since the launch of Inbox and means Google is still actively working on both platforms. Inbox offers a variety of new features for email, including bundling emails into topics like travel and promotions.

The new update also features better auto-complete although it didn't go into detail about the changes. Google will work to dig up more emails from the past regardless of where the email is currently sitting in the client.

Google Drive integration allows users to save documents from Gmail into Drive with one click. This should allow more integration with Drive and Docs rather than Microsoft Office.

All of these features are good upgrades to the Android client, which hasn't seen a lot of love from Google. Even the iOS client has seen more prominent updates as Google tries to win over users on Apple's own platform.
