The Los Angeles Lakers are ready for probably one of the biggest summers in team history as the team aims to build a new core group this offseason to try and give Kobe Bryant a chance to get his sixth ring before finally calling it quits.

A report from Bleacher Report's Kevin Ding said that the Lakers are going all out this summer, meaning they are going to spend a lot, to try and land a potential franchise-changing free agent that would complement Bryant, their 2015 draft picks, and the younger players in their roster such as Julius Randle and Jordan Clarkson, to return to a deep run in next year's postseason.

SB Nation's Drew Garrison reported that Lakers GM Mitch Kupchak is currently focusing his attention on draft night, but will almost certainly follow it up with a "big free agency signing" this July that would be the key to the franchise's sudden increase in talent come October.

There are seven big-name free agents available in July, namely: LeBron James, Marc Gasol, Kevin Love, LaMarcus Aldridge, Jimmy Butler, DeAndre Jordan, and Kawhi Leonard. Of the seven, James, Love, Jordan, and Leonard are most likely to remain with their respective teams. This leaves Gasol, Aldridge, and Butler as the top three players who the Lakers can woo.

Other free agents that could draw their attention should be Draymond Green, Paul Millsap, DeMarre Carroll, Danny Green, Rajon Rondo, Tyson Chandler, and Josh Smith.

Ding suggested that the Lakers should pick a big man at no. 2 (Karl-Anthony Towns or Jahlil Okafor) then trade picks 27 and 34 for a still youthful veteran guard like Brandon Jennings or Lance Stephenson.

Having a spitfire guard that could backup Bryant or play with him in the backcourt would definitely bring the Lakers back in playoff contention. And with a starting lineup featuring Gasol or Aldridge with Randle and Towns or Okafor up front, they can be one of the most feared teams next season.

Meanwhile, Sports Illustrated's Chris Mannix reported that the Lakers are locked in on Jahlil Okafor as their no. 2 pick. Mannix said that Okafor will give the team a potential franchise center that has an "enormous upside."
