Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones is not mum about his faith in his current running back Joseph Randle for the upcoming season to the extent of saying that the former DeMarco Murray backup has the potential to become a "no. 1 back", as reported by Marc Sessler of the NFL's official website.

"We have a player (in Randle) that has the potential -- and we based that on, not on what he did at Oklahoma State or how we drafted him, but by literally being a teammate around here for the last two years -- but he has the potential to be the kind of back that would step in there and be your No. 1 back," Jones said of the 23-year-old standout, as per the Dallas Cowboys' official website. "If he were not here, then I wouldn't feel as good as we go into the season and what might happen."

Jones also commended Randle's competition for the Cowboys' starting running back spot, Darren McFadden, saying that he "does have the potential, too, with the right numbers of carries and the right opportunity, but less enthusiastically though.

However, the 72-year-old business mogul may have given the most controversial comment during his interview by saying that "the combination of Randle and McFadden" was the type of running back they had when Murray was still with the team.

It is worth noting that Randle and Murray had a little back-and-forth verbal tussle early in the offseason. Randle said that while Murray was the league-leader in rushes last season, the latter actually "left a lot of meat in the bone" while he was sitting on the bench.

Randle was implying that he could have done more than Murray did if he was given the opportunity on the field.

Murray, who is now with the Philadelphia Eagles, answered with class, responding that he hoped Randle can "taste some of that meat" with the Cowboys now that he is no longer around, as per SB Nation.

And it looks like Randle's wish is going to come true this season with the huge support coming from the owner itself.

With the latest news of McFadden's hamstring injury out, it seems like coach Jason Garrett might be forced to pick Randle as the starter for this coming season.
