Speculations are rife that Indiana Pacers may sell their prized player Paul George by midseason if the two-time All-Star does not deliver in his new power forward position in Frank Vogel's small ball system.

Sport Illustrated's Brian Geltzeiler included George as one of four big-name NBA superstars "who could be on the move before the trade deadline."  Geltzeiler specifically mentioned the Pacers' noticeable defensive downgrade with George at the no. 4 as possibly the reason why Larry Bird and company would be forced to pull the trigger on a trade.

Geltzeiler admitted, though, that George is the least likely to be traded as compared to the other players on the list -- including DeMarcus Cousins, Kevin Love, and Chris Bosh -- because the 25-year-old is playing great and slowly becoming comfortable with Indiana's new system as of the moment.

The Pacers are sitting at sixth place in the "weaker" Eastern Conference so far with a 6-4 record, and so it is still be too early to decipher whether Bird and Vogel's experiment is working or not.

However, the article argues that if Bird thinks that everything is not working out and if the former Fresno State standout "won't be happy long-term at the bigger forward spot", then "he could yield a ton in return" by trading George.

Meanwhile, the Indianapolis Star has noted that George is not really playing at the power forward position that the team originally planned as they won six of their last seven games after starting the season 0-3.

The 2010 tenth overall pick is reportedly still playing in his usual small forward position at both ends of the floor and shooting guards C.J. Miles and Chase Budinger are the ones actually manning the no. 4 spot. This weak link has been the target of opposing teams' offenses.

George was quick to remark that he felt good about that decision, saying "those two have been taking the load at the four spot, and for me it's just been giving me an open field just with more space, more room to break my guy down and create".

George's comments seems to indicate that he is still not 100 percent committed to the plan of being the team's new power forward.
