Amazon Alexa now Supports Syfy Contents

E-commerce giant Amazon and basic cable channel Syfy recently announced a newly forged alliance that will enable Alexa owners to access exclusive Syfy contents.

E-commerce giant Amazon and basic cable channel Syfy has announced a newly forged alliance that will enable Alexa owners to access exclusive Syfy contents.

Amazon has been knocking on the doors of third-party companies to develop and build products that use its voice-controlled software. Amazon's effort have finally paid off with the support for Syfy, making it the first entertainment channel to use Alexa's features.

This means that owners of Amazon devices that supports Alexa can now use these devices to check out specific episode recaps, see previews of upcoming episodes, access behind-the-scene contents, a list of the channel's schedule, as well as Easter eggs.

By tapping into the voice-support feature of Alexa-enabled devices, users can now ask Syfy questions. Through this support, devices like the Amazon Echo can now be asked to perform searches and other queries related to Syfy.

Some of the most popular Alexa-enabled Amazon devices are the Echo, the Echo Dot, Amazon Fire TV and the Amazon Tap.

In a statement, Syfy Digital senior vice president Matthew Chiavelli said, "Whether it's VR, 3D printing or integrating the Internet of Things into viewing experience, Syfy Labs delivers new and innovative ways for fans to experience and interact with the network's programming. Since innovation and imagination are part of Syfy's brand DNA, we're thrilled to join the growing list of skills available on Alexa-enable devices."

Syfy is well-known for successful and highly rated shows like '12 Monkeys,' 'Sharknado: The 4th Awakens,' 'Z Nation,' 'The Expanse,' and 'Hunters.'

Many tech analysts have commended Amazon and Syfy for their latest venture. Some analysts agree that the partnership, depending on its success, will help pave the way for cable channels to also strike deals with Amazon in the future. As smart home devices and the Internet of Things grow, Amazon continues to be one of the major frontrunners.
